HEAR has been involved in the Cochlear Implant Programme at Manchester Royal
Infirmary and the University of Manchester,Manchester,UK in 1998.
A cochlear implant(CI) is a device now in widespread use for the treatment of severe
to profound deafness caused by loss of function of the inner ear or cochlear
The charity is also working to develop CI technology and is designed for the auditory rehabilitation of a specific small group of totally deaf individuals whose hearing loss is due to loss of the auditory nerves.
HEAR is also involved with new programmes at Manchester Royal Infirmary looking at the effectiveness of semi-implantable and totally implantable hearing aids
